Pension Clicks

In this edition of Pension Clicks, we summarise the last quarter’s pension developments in In Sight, analyse the pension risk transfer market, with advice and tips, in our 2018 Risk Settlement Market Review, and ask when DC members should be helped to make their own decisions.

In Sight – May
Our quarterly summary of pensions issues includes the White Paper on DB pensions and a number of changes that took place in April, including the latest on DC disclosure, and a round-up of cases and other news. A reminder – In Sight is now only available online.

Invitation to participate in research – institutional decision-making
The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries is sponsoring research into the behavioural aspects of pension scheme decision-making which will be delivered by a consortium of partners: Ipsos Mori, City University and Leeds University, and supported by Aon and Invesco. Ipsos Mori are looking to conduct informal interviews with DB and DC trustees – you are invited to take part.

The chair’s role in making better scheme decisions
The way a trustee meeting is chaired has a direct impact on the board as a whole, the decisions made and the effectiveness of those decisions. Susan Hoare looks at how in this article, first published in Pensions Expert.

ESG: Better long-term outcomes?
John Belgrove and a panel of other investment experts discuss environmental, social and governance-related investing in this roundtable organised by Portfolio Institutional.

New technology for a new era in pension scheme risk management
One of the biggest challenges facing DB sponsors and trustees is making effective and timely decisions based on a large volume of information from a variety of sources. Aon’s real-time valuation and risk management system, Risk Analyzer, can help you to understand, manage and take immediate action in relation to your scheme.

A summary of market movements over the past week.

Aon in the press
This month, we say that the Pensions Regulator’s Annual Funding Statement puts greater emphasis on planning and monitoring, while our survey finds that the government’s White Paper measures will offer better protection to pension schemes. We anticipate attractive opportunities in the risk settlement market for the rest of 2018 and believe that while new cyber guidance is a good start, pension schemes still need to do more. We also appoint Emma Adair as head of client services for UK investment.
